Just The Knocker by CatharsisJB Just The Knocker by CatharsisJB
A lot of people know that "Labyrinth" is my favorite movie ever. When *NycterisA gave me a little pack of trinkets that were all held together by this key-ring-type-thing, I decided I was going to find a use for all of the trinkets, including their "boring old ring." I decided to pay homage to "Labyrinth" with a door knocker of my own design. The ring is small, so I turned it into a fridge-sized ornament :)

The dragon head was sculpted from polymer clay, painted, and glazed. The ring is some sort of metal, whooo knowwwws. There is a magnet on the back so you can stick it on your fridge or your annoying brother's computer.

(DON'T PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER YOU JOIK.)

If you haven't seen "Labyrinth" and you enjoy good fun things I think you should do that now. *crosses arms and waits*

Oooooh, very nice; I wish I could find actual size door knockers that looked that good. On a side note, what's a joik? But back to commenting! I bow your awesomeness. *nodnod*
Labyrinth=Teh love. I first saw it at age six and every time Bowie came on screen I was distracted by his spiffy costumes, make-up, or twirly crystals... And even at that age I kept staring at him thinking, "Those pants must be cutting off circulation somewhere.... Those are the tightest pants I've ever seen..." And embarrassingly enough, "Why's there a bulge down thar?" Anywho back to the piece... It's so shiny! After looking at it my only conclusion is that you are magical. *sagenod*

Remind me of the babe! *starts dancing*

ooooooo It's so cool! I LOVE Labyrinth  I first saw it when I was 7 at a friends place and my younger brother who was 2 at the time was so scared! I bought it a few months ago so I could watch it whenever, it's still just as awesome and even funnier because it's corny :giggle:

Have seen Labyrinth a year or two ago, loved it. And, it's a fridge knocker now.

I think I have a little ring similar to that in my random-junk-I-might-use-sometime bag.

As always, looks good JB.

While the door knockers weren't my favorite characters (Sir Didymus holds #1 for me) the movie is brilliant and the song "You Remind me of the Babe" is always stuck in my head *may be from repeatedly listening to the "Labyrinth" sound track, but that's only a big maybe XD *

It seemed like it was just there to hold all of the interesting bits together... I was like, "Oh poor ring! So boring. Let's do something with you!"

... now I want like 50 of them XD

I could make ya a mixed 50 out of copper and brass or all of one or the other, with patina, if you'll trade for a little dragon chibi for my partner...No shipping charge. Heck, I'll do 100 if ya like. And I could make the finishes different, brushed, patina, shiny, etc.
(They won't be soldered shut, but that might be a good thing with what you're using them for?)

Aghhh that sounds like a really great offer - but here is where I act all picky. The ring bit I used in this piece has that pattern on it, it's not a straight ring, but has bumps all around it? Like it's twisted or braided? I wish I could think of the term but I suffered a brain melt sometime in my sleep.

I am of the opinion that if I use a plain ring without the patterning on it, the design of the piece would probably suffer a bit. :( I have some "smooth" ring items that I tried another piece on after this one was a success, and I was not happy with it. Do you know what I mean? It's like the twisting really gave it a kick.

I feel like a jerk turning down your offer because it is extremely generous! And I do appreciate it so much. I just think I need patterned rings :/ *picky jerk*

OK, right now I _really_ have to concentrate on getting some commissions finished to earn money to fund other projects (may sell some things on ebay too) but when I am settled on those I would like to talk about this more with you!

I knew this was a nod to Labyrinth simply by the title! I love it, I was too young to watch it when it first came out - but remember my sister being obsessed! Finally bought the movie last year and I'm hooked.

The ornament itself is great! You've done well to make it look like aged metal, and the ring is a nice touch.

This is excellent. I love how regal and ... absolutely ALIVE it looks. It reminds me of the Disney version of A Christmas Carol with the knocker that comes to life and talks.

Except... if this thing talked to me I might never touch a door again.

Really well done.
