Bahhh! Thank you so much for the DD! =sidneyeileen for recommending and `KevLewis for the feature! If anyone is interested in how to get into these animals, PLEASE ask me questions (I'm better at answering Notes than comments). I am more than happy to answer what I can and point you to others who can answer!

Taquito being a ham on a pencil. Showing off sticky-toes, prehensile-tailness, and eye-lickage.

...I'd put pictures of you in my gallery too if you could do anything NEAR as cool!

I absolutely love crested geckos - or at least, I think I do. See, I've never actually owned one. I'm stuck between getting r. ciliatus and r. auriculatus at the moment. The latter was recommended to me, but I've seen so many opinions and now I'm really torn. (I have a slightly-smaller-than-recommended tank - 20x10x18" tall - and I can't upgrade at the moment. I'm trying to fix it up to be a nice little naturalistic set-up with a lot of climbing space.)

Anyways, enough about what I'm going through.

I love the composition of this, the subject matter, all of that good stuff. Because the her mouth is open, her colors reflect the colors of the pencil. Love the contrast of shapes and whatnot. Really effective overall. I'm +faving this.

Yeah, your enclosure is a bit small in my opinion for an adult, but it would work well enough for a juvie of either species! You can get the gecko now and go looking for another enclosure on freecycle/craigslist for cheap or free in the meantime.

I do really like my garg, but I lean toward liking cresties a bit more, mainly because their feet are softer when they walk on me XD Their temperaments at this time are fairly similar. Some people do say that their gargs are a bit more bitey (and their teeth are slightly larger than cresties';), but some people say their cresties are more flighty. And to make matters more difficult, every gecko is different ;)

Hey, thanks so much for your quick reply! :)

Yeah, I posted in the Geckosunlimited forum as well, and apparently someone claimed I could have -two- adults in there (not that I would plan to - if any aggression broke out between two females, that would spell problems, and obviously I can't handle a breeding project right now either - small-scale or otherwise.) There's such a variety of opinions. I'll probably be able to get a juvenile, so we'll see where it goes from there.

If I did get a 20gal tall or 29tall eventually, I'd probably try to transfer as much of the "naturalistic" set-up of the 15tall as I could. I'll have to talk to someone who knows a bunch about paint-scraping silicone off the sides of an enclosure on that one - but hey, by that time, maybe I'll just have enough to get more silicone/supplies. Then I could use the old tank for something else.

From what I saw, East Bay Vivarium near me had quite a variety of both species, so hopefully, I'll be able to get the animal from there, take a look around, and see which individual I like best. Personality is the most important thing to me, at least this time around.

Yeah, some people keep an adult or two in a ten-gallon and that bothers me a bit, but honestly It's hard to give a definitive number gallons-wise. No matter what you do, it'll never give them the same amount of space that they'd have in the wild. I personally see a lot more activity if I keep adults in larger-than-20-gallons though.

I'd always recommend having a 2-month minimum quarantine period for any two geckos you plan to introduce; even if they come from the same breeder and you trust your source, this period gives you a chance to see whether each single gecko is eating/pooping/gaining weight.

Scraping silicone isn't too hard - just need some elbow grease. :)

Let me know if you come up with some specific questions!

Alright, that brings me to one little question, then, because it seems I've heard a couple of different opinions: Should I quarantine a single animal before introducing him/her to a set-up, even when there are no animals there currently, and no animals that previously lived there? If so, it's a trip down to the Container Store for me, I think. If I ever get a second gecko for the same enclosure, I know to quarantine it, but I'm not sure about the very first.

Sorry for pestering you so much over comments. >:

You -might- find it beneficial to have a short (month) quarantine in a simplistic setup (faux plants, paper towel substrate) - in a live-planted viv you're going to have some trouble finding poop, which is a big indicator of the health of the gecko. It's kind of up to you on that one though! A lot of people new to a species just find it really important to recognize how often they should be looking for droppings, making sure the output looks normal, stuff like that.

My first thought on seeing this: Lookit the wittle yellow pencil monster friend! Yaaay!
My second and third and so on thoughts were on what a great photograph this is, and how the lighting is perfect and how the focus is dead on, and how the timing was great (eye lick!) You've really captured something great here. Good job!

Shit! I'm gonna show that to my mother! She will go scy-high!
"What is that?!" "I WANT ONE OF THOOSE TOOO!!" "I better talk to shfaklshdfs and see if se can fix one of those!"
....or something like that :D
she is such a freak in lizards and animals. Sometimes It feels like she collects in them so that she can show of all the cool animals she finds...>__>;
...it's scary and somewhat annoying.

But that looks really cute! :D And the picture taken of him is really good.
...I wonder if I can get my little snake to do something like that.... haha! :3

I would love a crested gecko. Unfortunatly here in Portugal they are too expensive and there are fews. A while ago I went on a Reptile shop and ask the price of a Crested Gecko... and the man told me "about 300 euros" :( There goes my dream down the toilette :crying:

Aw... yes, for the very very nice morphs (perfect pinstripes, amazing reds, outstanding creamsicles, ridiculously pattenrned dalmatians) here, you will see prices like that, but anymore, normal animals go for about $40-100.
