Spring Surprise by CatharsisJB Spring Surprise by CatharsisJB
Calzone peeping out from the inside of one of my home's tulips (I'm totally cheating - the tulips were planted by the previous owner so I really didn't have to do any work to get these pretty flowers once a year).

I love this picture, which essentially means nobody else will, heh.

I love it! SO cute. It's so wonderful when a good herp keeper is also a photographer. Everybody shoots pics of cats and dogs, but herps don't get enough photo love. This is a beautiful pic of a lovely creature.

They're so cute! How much do these guys usually cost?

Kinda depends where you buy them. Lower-quality (plain, buckskin, brownish) geckos go for like $40, and I've seen some really beautiful ones go for $400-600. XD

If you can find a local breeder it'd be better, honestly - a lot of pet stores keep them in kind of poor conditions ;___;

All the better to rescue them! =D We only have dog and cat breeders around here, no one breeds exotic animals. "Near chicago"

*is near Chicago and breeding cresties* :P

And actually, it's a fallacy - it's not really "rescuing" if you are paying the pet store to take the animal off their hands, because they'll just use that money to purchase more animals to treat badly. My local store stopped selling cresties because nobody would buy them with the conditions they kept them in, the dummies. It's only a rescue if they give it to you for free ;___;

It's better than the animals rotting in there. Poor things, it's why I rescue bettas. (I have 7 in all) <3 which side of chicago are you on? I'm in the northwest side. If your close and are willing to possibly sell me a crestie, I might be able to talk my parents into letting me have one.

I'm in the northwest too, well, northwest of Chicago, and willing to meet up. :)

Just so you know, there's also an animal expo 2x a month in Wheaton, if you ever get the hankering to look at a TON of reptiles all in one area. There are hundreds of breeders in the Chicago area - it's actually a pretty large area for herp-lovers, probably just behind California.

I love the colors -- the vibrant, bright red contrasting with the slightly out-of-focus green stem. The red is really good at hiding Calzone, oddly enough, which makes it that much cooler when he pops out.

I'm also really giggling at the way the tulip petal Calzone's on looks like a tongue, and so the flower looks like it's going "Do you like seafood? SEE! FOOD!" XD
